What’s on in Glasgow? World Irish Dancing Championships 2018 | 24th of March – 1st of April 2018
Glasgow will host the prestigious World Irish Dancing Championships for a fifth time when the colourful event returns to the city in March this year based at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.
Now in its 45th year, the event widely regarded as the Olympics of Irish dance, “The Worlds” competition, run by An Coimisiún le Rincí Gaelacha is the largest and most coveted Irish dancing contest on the global circuit and has run for almost 50 years. With more than 14,500 dancers and supporters travelling from all over the world for the championships.
Glasgow was the first non-Irish city to stage the Championships in 2002 and by 2024 will have held it more times than any other destination outside of Ireland.
Glasgow has previously welcomed the event in 2007, 2010 and 2016, and has already been chosen to deliver the 2024 Championships for a record sixth time.
